People have been doing it but that does not mean its allowed.
If you ask HR they will never allow it unless there is an agreement in place.
If anyone has been doing it, its under the pretext of - Do it - don’t tell.
But as far as I am aware, firms/teams are not allowed to permit this on writing.
Most teams that allow do so verbally since there would be tax implications for the country you are working from as well as the location you are registered as an employee.
There may be tax implications for both you and the firm if you work outside of the country without an agreement/set up
Haven't heard, but there are probably tax implications.
Yup. There are corporate tax implications for the firm if they have an employee on the ground in another country doing U.S. firm/company work.
Depending on the country, there could also be payroll reporting requirements, tax withholding issues, currency control issues, local labor law, immigration, etc. Most firms/companies that have looked into it are forbidding international remote work.
EY US recently sent out a mandate that working outside the US is explicitly not allowed. ( with a few exceptions that require formal workarounds)
It’s a tax issue
Don't ask don't tell seems like a good policy for a good 1-3 month working vacation
In FTI there is freedom to work from wherever you’d like. We have a lot of cases working from Canada/Mexico or even Europe. It is not forbidden and there is no time restriction as long as you are back for 2021.
In KPMG you need to get a bunch of internal ok..and at least in audit, the client needs to give the ok too
Yup, in PA since we deal with client data, they need to be aware of their data crossing different countries as well if we follow the guidelines properly.
