I am currently an elementary teacher seeking a job that is not in education. I have a BS in Journalism and an MA in Communication. Any recommendations? (Not sure why it says “high school teacher” it’s been a while since I’ve worked at a high school)

What about editor, copywriter, technical writer, freelance writer, reporter, public relations, or event planner?

Looking for work in journalism is probably not too promising these days. Venture capital firms have pretty much hollowed out most of the newspapers around the country. Moving into a public relations role might be something to look into. There are organizations that need public relations work, and your background in teaching might be something to leverage in that regard.

I need help managing a contract transition. I just started working as project manager owning a large system and help manage a team of developers contracted by a different company. Now their contract is ending and I’ve been asked to represent the gov’t as a contractor and make sure the transition goes well. I’ve never been in this position…usually I’m either transitioning in or out. The outgoing isn’t very organized with their knowledge transfer and documentation and want to help them but how?

Currently 25 y/o making 70k/year in Boston. I grew up pretty poor and I have minimal financial education. A lot of my salary now goes towards helping my parents get out of debt. My parents are no longer able to live on their own, so considering selling my grandmas house where they live (maybe 550k), paying off their mortgage (100k) and buying a duplex (between them they make about 55k/year). Is buying a two family home a good investment ? How much can I afford to spend on a new house?

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

I‘ve currently got 5 years sales experience (sales advisor, sales specialist and currently SDR). I’m looking to stay in my SDR role for a year and then venture out. The companies I’ve worked for have been in the telecommunications and now fintech industry. What is the trajectory for sales role post sales manager or what are other career avenues I could explore with my sales experience.

Hi! I started at a new company 2 months ago and while I’m really enjoying my job so far, I’m having a hard time gauging whether or not I’m doing a “good job.” My role seems to be always evolving, which is fine and I actually enjoy being a support to the greater marketing team, but I feel like I need better defined targets to make sure I’m meeting expectations. Also, when I ask my boss what they’d like to see, I don’t ever get a clear answer. (Cont’d in comments)
