I'm a fan of them measuring bags. Way too many oversized items (and jackets and other ridiculous items) taking up bin space and forcing other folks to gate check.
M2 is right. Unless your bag clearly wasn’t oversized you were in the wrong here, especially if the plane is full. However I’d imagine if your bag wasn’t oversized you wouldn’t care about the extra measure
My bag is in compliant...it’s the largest size you can bring on the plane. never got measured by any other airlines...ok I know this is first world problem but for someone who travels so much, it’s just annoying...
I saw a thing flash on ticket reader at gate this am that said “don’t screen bag”. Not sure if it was because of status or some random search thing.
Don’t know if it was referring to bag size screen or actual content search
In my last thousand or so flights with AA, DL and UA, not one has measured my bags because I have a hard shell that is small enough. It always gets measured by European carriers, but it’s still compliant.
The only way to reliably have this not be a problem is to have a bag that is compliant. It should also help rationalize how much is getting packed each week
AA seems to do this way more than other airlines. I agree, steer clear
