I am surprised and concerned about the fact that a lot of my colleagues do not have good excel skills. I literally had to show someone higher rank than me probably 30ish, how to do a “find” in excel for the workbook. This isn’t limited to people who have been out of school for awhile. This also includes new hires and staff, and seniors. Partners forget about it. They probably aren’t involved at all in building out the work paperwork but I feel staff, seniors and managers should be good users

Don’t be concerned. There’s probably a lot they know that you don’t. Just be glad you have something additional to contribute.

It’s really bad there’s a whole culture in tax against it. They want to set up recs like it’s written out on a blackboard. We get data in table formats and should process as such.

If someone is in their 30s in public accounting, they’re likely a senior manager which means it doesn’t matter.

If they’re getting into the weeds on building spreadsheets regularly, they’re not doing their job right. Like most things, you lose the ability to do it when you stop doing it regularly.

Not always. I build and I know AVP’s in non PA jobs who build too

You don’t know what you don’t know

My first year at EY (from PWC) I had a senior manager tell my staff to change all my sumifs formulas to direct links because I didn’t listen to them when they told me to direct link (it was 300+ TB lines)..They said they couldn’t review my work because they didn’t understand how to check if my formulas were correct 🙄

After a few weeks of working with them (and getting them to trust the quality of my work) I sat down with this person and they allowed me to teach them how to use these formulas and how I add checks everywhere. I still have to deal with people like this though, it’s very scary.

Hi Guys,

I am a ReactJS developer (frontend) with 3.8 years of experience. I currently switched my company but they don't have an opening for ReactJS and kept me on a bench for 3 months and they are telling me now to learn AEM technology and work on the AEM project for now.
They hired me for a package of 16 LPA.
So my questions are is it a good technology to learn? Should I say yes and have a career in it?
Will I get the same package like ReactJS or less? What is future if compared with React?
