Look for another job. If you find one, see if you can negotiate them to buy out your contract with your current employer. I’ve seen that done. Might work for your case!
Update: I am moving to an independent practice and they will be paying for my Certificate!
I'd say that ( if you think that you CAN push through and stay). DO so - Let them pay for your schooling. After 6 months, move on.
Corporate offices unfortunately are the majority of practices. Gone are the days of the 'vet owned' practices.
So I'll be honest, I (personally ) DO NOT prefer the corporate facilities for a myriad of personal reasons. They 're too touchy for some to go into it, but trust me, I SO understand.
After 22+ years in Vet Med myself, I may do something alltogether different... That being said, I don't have student loan issues.
Additionally, and obviously Vets have MANY more options than techs. You can go ANY where with your talents. I'd personally say that you need to do what benefits YOU The most.... AnD Please keep aware of compassion fatigue. I have lost 2 very lovely people in my life to it-
Most people are not aware , But NOT one more Vet/ Tech Please ... Yours...Kat
Hi Kat. Unfortunately, in order for them to pay for my masters, I had to sign an agreement that says if I leave within the first year of completing my masters, I have to pay back 75% of it, in the 2nd year 50% and the 3rd year 25%.
I would have to stay another 5 years with the company if I want to not pay back...
But thank you for the honest opinion and heartfelt comments
Well That stinks.... well I will empathize with you... I do hope that there is an alternative that might present itself. If it IS a corporate, perhaps a different locale ?? Perhaps you could stick with the firm and change the hospital in which you work. Perhaps?? Best - Kat
However, I don't think I can move past the direspect.
I also need a bigger surgical load than I do where I am at the moment.
But I can't afford to pay the Certificate on my own.
Any suggestions? And what salary would you expect for a vet surgeon that has been qualified for 5 years and is currently doing a surgical masters degree?
Thank you!
