Friend of mine that works at Oracle and travels all the time as the new OLED steam deck loves it. He carries it around for work and weekend vacations, etc. too
I think the key for me personally is going on Steam and having it scan your library for games that can play on the steam deck and if it’s sufficient enough count and the games you want to play then do it but there’s certainly are titles it will not play.

Steam deck is great. It's a little big, but its ability to play most games at good quality is amazing. Plus, you can do all kinds of emulation if you like playing old stuff too.
I use PS remote play to access my PS5 library of games. Works fine with a decent internet connection. Can play via my iPad or laptop
I am a Steam deck user and really like it for traveling. I have the OLED Steam deck and it has been quite nice. It can run amazingly powerful games (but you’ll want a plug if you do - it uses battery quick on Cyberpunk and such).
