Ask for 110k base and more stock, and more sign-in, and see what happens?
This looks like a low-ish L59-60 offer… keep in mind the 20% bonus is max, the target is 10% and most top performers get about 14-16%. The annual stock award is also not a % of your base, it’s a diff range by level. So for example, I’m an L62 and my range is 0-32K in stock per year. If I get 10% of stock rewards I get 16k which os 100% at target, 20% would be 32k.
Based on your offer; to raise the base you should ask what level you are and if you can move up. The signing bonus can def go up too and it doesn’t sound like they’re giving you a stock sign on bonusunless you forgot to post? You should ask for one
Thank you for breaking this down for me! I meant to say that the stock sign on is 20,000. I expressed my concern to the recruiter and he said that he would reach out to the hiring team and get back to me hopefully, with updated numbers
What is your position / rank at WF vs the new offer?
I’m a Engineer at Wells Fargo, rank is AVP vs Project Manager at Microsoft
Doing the math, Microsoft
Tech companies paying crappy salaries these days because “everyone” wants to work there
What position is this? Very surprised to see this base and such a low sign in from Microsoft.
It is for a Project Manager position
Is that 20k stock per year, or 20k over a few years?
I believe it’s like the example Microsoft 1 noted below
Use MS as a stepping stone
Interesting you say that because I was also wondering if MS would be better than Wells Fargo from a career perspective/exit opportunities
Update: they came back with a counter offer of 105,000 base pay, 15,000 sign on bonus, 30,000 stock sign on, and 20% yearly bonus based on performance. The overall package is good but after working one year at MS I hope there is an increase in pay?
61 is entry level for an MBA, I do think it’s a bit low given your experience. I’m 5 years out of UG at 62 for reference but came in as 60 and promoted twice in 2 years. I’d push back and ask, perhaps the role is just too junior for you. Unfortunately Microsoft does tend to bring people in at a lower level and prefers to grow careers internally more often than not.
