I do not enjoy FDD at all after switching from audit. Due to the intense timelines I don’t get enough time to actually understand and learn about the business. Im just stuck in spreadsheets all day. Seems like it’s super repetitive as far as process. People are kinda stuck up, new director is really intense and nothing is ever quick enough. Does anyone else feel this way or am I being dramatic?

Prob just a bad team or bad deal - if you think our stuff is repetitive then audit is a whole other ball game

like

Timelines have gotten condensed since Covid when we accommodated shorter timelines to get as many deals done during the craze, and development has suffered. A senior today is rarely performing at the level of a senior 4-5 years ago. This contributes to the feeling on intense timelines. Yes, there is certainly an element of repetitiveness, but it definitely feels exaggerated in recent years as FDD has moved to volume-based model. The job was actually enjoyable/interesting before covid. Now everyone is just collecting a paycheck and waiting for the job market to improve.

I remember the days pre-Covid when we had a full onshore team and plenty time to process / analyze data, there was some use of India but most work were onshore and timeline allowed proper development and some WLB. Nowadays it’s just non stop sprints with under staffed teams while pressure to use India / AI intensifies every year.

Been doing it almost 5 years and feel very similar. A lot of egos in FDD.

I do agree with all your points. I honestly didn’t think audit was that bad but wanted to see something different. The unpredictability is the toughest part of this job for sure. It’s definitely more data intensive too. But each deal is unique and if you work across different industries you’ll see more variety.

like

some people r just mean in FDD lol but there are some really great people, hopefully you get staffed on a better deal soon

When I’m staffed on bad deals I feel this way. It’s pretty wild how the projects you are working on influence your view of the job, I would say give it time to make sure it’s not just a phase but honestly I get it.

I am also looking for a referral in Deloitte +kpmg for a systems/bi analyst role, will be super grateful for some help there too.

Currently a staff in audit - 6 months in. Glad to be learning a lot, and have had a generally positive experience at the firm other than a few interactions, some tough busy season nights. Really been intrigued by TAS/M&A, however, and had a few convos with a senior in TAS i know at the firm. It’s closer to what I studied, but don’t know how to make the jump as it seems an internal transfer could take 6+months/senior rank and a lot of convincing. Is it better to jump firms/has anyone done this?
