Sounds like you need more self control over any advice
It's tough! You just have to really try to change your thinking about food and decide that you're going to do something about it. It's easy to keep putting off the decision to lose weight. Once you start to discipline yourself, working on portion control will work wonders. I know I was just eating too much at each meal, and getting that under control was the key to dropping a lot of weight.
I heard that portion control is super important - except that it’s so hard!! If I could easily control my eating I would… when I get hungry, I end up eating. If I don’t, I’m hangry…
I started bringing cereal bars to work. I know it may not sound appetizing, but when you find one you like, it helps you feel satisfied and doesn't have as many calories as normal restaurant food.
That’s a good point - the cereal bars really don’t taste that great to me but you’re right, it’s better than binge eating too many calories after my shift.
The main thing is being mindful of what you eat, not necessarily how much you eat. If you are eating a lot of carbs and sugary food, you'll likely gain weight. If you are eating mostly protein, vegetables, fruits, and healthy grains, it probably will help curb your appetite and keep you energized.
Yeah I have to work on mostly protein and veggies. It’s just tricky when there is so much greasy food in front on me!
Bring a healthy snack to work with you if you can't get through a shift without feeling like you're starving. I have protein bars with me at all times and will snack on them as needed. It's much better to eat 200-400 reasonably healthy calories than 1,200 at the end of your shift because you're running on empty. Aside from keeping your diet in check, exercise is obviously the next most important. Working in restaurants forces you to get a lot of steps in each day, but if that isn't cutting it to the point of helping you lose weight, start trying to schedule exercise into your day outside of work. I do spin class most mornings and it's helped me drop some of the weight I gained last year.
I exercise so I’m less worried about that - but to lose weight I need to cut those calories. My god it’s tough to do! Maybe I will try the protein bars - although I don’t think they taste good - but if it will help me lose weight, it’s worth a try!
