It’s an industry problem, I’m afraid. We all work in entertainment but have such wildly different skill sets, mindsets, and priorities. You have extremely technical and analytical people working alongside artistic and emotional people. We all need each other, but don’t understand each other.
I never thought about it like that. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt but I guess this is an industry that appeals to a wide range of skills.
I think poor communication is a problem across the entire industry. It doesn't matter what area one is in, a lot of people in the business are just wrapped up in their own thing. And they don't really make much effort to be understood by anyone else. In fact, sometimes I think I get stuck with coworkers who are deliberately being difficult communicators.
Yeah I think a lot of people think their own work is the most important thing happening that day. It’s a big issue that I think we all need to be a little more considerate to our coworkers.
Miscommunication runs deep across the entertainment industry, especially with how siloed everything is. Departments often operate in their own bubbles, and unless someone’s been on both sides, they rarely understand each other's workflows or pressure points. I've found that even small efforts, like informal cross-department check-ins can go a long way.
Yes this is a huge issue! No one truly gets how other people’s workflows run and unless you’ve had experience in every other department, it just ends up with everyone resenting each other.
Definitely not just post—miscommunication is everywhere in this industry. So many departments work separately, and unless someone makes an effort to connect the dots, things fall through the cracks. It’s frustrating, but sadly pretty common across the board.
It’s sad it almost makes me think there should be work shops that at least help explain what other departments do. My work does that on your first week starting but you’re learning so much other stuff too it’s very in one ear out the other.
