Normal! Have a great year!
Totally normal. The day you feel you are not rushed and have everything in hand ... well watch out! You either forgot about something or the universe is sending you a whopper!
You’re normal, and this is common for both new and veterans teachers alike. Just do the best you can, and then accept that everything may not be perfectly the way you want it when the students arrive—and that’s ok.
The self-doubt decreases gradually as your experience increases. Try to enjoy the journey, and I hope you have a successful and enjoyable year!
Thirty-one years later I still wonder if I even know what I’m doing
Amen!!😂😂
The students need time to ease into the beginning of the year too.
They don't know what you are supposed have done/ready and they don't really care.
It's ok not to hit the ground at a full gallop.

Yep, sounds right. At some point I just accepted that I will feel “behind” for the first two weeks and prioritize tasks accordingly. I show up on Teacher Day 1 with a plan and a to-do list that I know will grow exponentially throughout the day with each coordination meeting, parent phone call, and student contact. And like the game of “hide and seek,” on Student Day 1 and beyond, it’s “ready or not, here (they) come.”Advice? Just take a deep breath and keep on pluggin’. You’ve got this!!
You need to calm down. Think positive thoughts. If you can, go in early to set up your class, talk to your colleagues and definitely prepare your 1st week of action and activities for your students. If you're stressed, your kids will notice it! So think positive and be positive!!
Very normal and not only for teachers but for all the ancillary staff too. Caseloads come out which not only shows which student/teacher but when their 3year re-evals are due. It’s very overwhelming.
Good luck this year. You’ve got this. 💖
It's normal even for some veteran teachers. My husband has been teacher for over 20 years and he says the same thing every year.
Also, don't let social media tell you what your room "should" look like or what you "should" be doing.
Yes, perfectly normal to have those feelings. I had that for my first year. I had feelings of dread many years later, but that was PTSD from horrible student behavior and really bad admin.
I always said that I felt like I could spend 8 hours a day every day of the summer, and would never feel ready! Even last year, after 37 years, I still felt that way! However, many years ago a colleague gave me words of infinite wisdom. She said, “Ready or not, here they come.” Just breathe - what you’re feeling is totally normal!
Has anyone ever told you that you are a hero for our future generation. The fact that you already took that stand, I salute you. With our educational broken system, the fact that you are you at your post, you’re already ahead of the game. Let everyday take care of itself. No need to feel stress. You got this. Have a blessed, pleasant and productive school year!

Oh Hell, I'm already behind for 2027. Not a damn thing I can do about it either. Bust arse during the day, pour a glass of whiskey at night. That's the gig.
