I find that I am SO against big law firms. Like a deep rooted hatred for the entire system, the hierarchy, the expectations, the cost, the pay, etc. It also comes with a hatred for the people who think it’s okay to behave a certain way because of the pedigree or prestige. I’m a woman of color, so that may have affected my perspective and treatment. But if anyone cares to listen to me, they’d stay the hell away from this hell hole and the scam that it is.

Felt this, although I don’t completely demonize it. I am too a woman of color. Some of the work is really top notch and unique. Some of us can’t say no to it if given the chance as, let’s be real, the money is great & needed. I do hate the gatekeeping to certain schools, individuals, etc. public interest can be as exclusive too.

I too have become disenchanted with the world of big law. But as A1 mentioned, the money is so good. It's kind of like golden handcuffs.

Second the above. The way I see it is I’m using them as much as they’re using me. I’m learning everything I can and squeezing as much money as possible out of them then taking my ass where ever I want.

Hold on shareholder, you made it pretty far up the chain for a “me too”. That’s what you call eye on the prize. I continue to doubt whether I have the patience.

I feel the same. But I try to stay rational and professional as much as possible. Of course, I won't sit still if they violate my rights or mistreat me in any way.

Better to be there than at a firm that changes the pay date a lot, ask if they can pay at another date and time, no PTO, No VP, No benefits whatsoever, work on Holidays unless it is decide not to work that holiday by the attorney, pay that doesn’t meet the bills, and so on and so forth. Consider it a blessing. Ignore the rest of the crap. (Hope you can anyway).

Take the organization over and bring new happy culture with even more profits!

TBH, this is why I never wanted to go to BigLaw. Microaggressions in this profession are already ridiculous. I can't imagine being in a position where I'm getting paid an obscene amount of money and have to put up with it. I was terrified I would ruin my entire legal career, because somebody would say the wrong thing to me or the wrong day and I would blow up on folks for having the caucasity to be ridiculous. LOL

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

I've been working at my current job for about a year now and I'm finally beginning to understand how the company works.

It's not easy, though. It's a small company, which means there are only a few of us in each department. There is no dedicated training team, so we all have to learn new things on the fly through trial-and-error or by asking our coworkers for help. The management team seems to be pretty hands off when it comes to project management and project direction, so it's up to us engineers to figure out how we want to spend our time and who we want to work with.

Hi fishes, I need some guidance.

I am currently into the SAP Security domain and I absolutely do not have any interest in it. I am planning to shift to development and have started on some courses on my own.

My question is, is there any future prospects in SAP UI5 and Fiori? Since my background is in SAP, I assume it will make a domain switch easier.

Or should I move into the JS-React path since there seems to be a lot of demand? But my worry is about my lack of actual work experience

I handleda very difficult and convoluted succession for a black family. My client was astute and intelligent. We got along great. His family was difficult. Willfully ignorant.

Part of the succession dealt with clawing back $450,000 in insurance proceeds that a niece fraudulent received from the decedent by making herself the beneficiary on policies. A separate attorney was hired to handle that part before I was hired to handle all other matters, including settling a $500,000 debt with the...

What was your experience with the LSAT? Do you think it's gatekeeping, preventing students who can't afford it (often people of color) from entering the field? OR is it helping future attorney's of color by giving them a chance to go to a top school regardless of grades? I've seen questions about the LSAT all day and just want to know how people feel.

What are the chances of getting a lower offer because you're POC applying at a fairly large law firm? Not big law or anything but still. Friend and I both got offers, came out of the same school and have very similar internship experience. He's white and I'm not, his offer is significantly higher. How low is low enough to walk away?

Someone on LinkedIn expressed disappointment about the lack of diversity from the big law firms in TX that were posting pics of their summer associates. A managing partner commented that he thought the post might be about a pic he posted (12/14 SAs were white). He tried to defend this by saying that they had LGBT and socioeconomic diversity. The fact that he recognized that his pic might be part of the problem says it all. Law firms need to do better. Sorry, I just wanted to rant.

I'm a younger plaintiff's side attorney (31). Does anyone else feel like white attorneys give you a particularly harder time? Like unreasonably denying clear facts, or trying to fish for a way to sanction you? Usually it's solo defense attorneys that get extreme with it, but I've seen some questionable stuff from BigLaw too. Hopefully I'm not the only one.

Have you ever been told off by an older attorney of color? We have one Black partner at our firm and in conversation with him this morning he told me I should work on sounding and looking "more professional" and not let my "tone" or "bad attitude" get in the way. I don't think I've ever had a bad attitude at work, and whatever "tone" I'm speaking in it's my normal one. As a Black woman I just feel super weird about it and kind of sad.

Kind of a quick rant. I did a quick search through some firms websites because I am thinking of switching jobs. It is definitely clear most firms still do not embrace diversity. I know diverse applicants must be just as qualified! So what is keeping attorneys of color out?? It’s so discouraging.
