I found out my new Industry job has a Blackout Period for vacation that lasts from January through March. How is this any different from Public Accounting? I left the Big 4 specifically to avoid the Busy Season lockdown, and now I find out I can’t even take a long weekend for my own wedding anniversary. I know it’s something I should have found out in the interview stage, but yikes. Is this normal?

Has anyone taken a more junior role in investment banking to prove themselves to a higher caliber firm with the intent on them hiring you and promote you once they see your capabilities? Currently have a 1 YOE experience at a boutique investment bank and just did 3 interviews at a bulge bracket but failed to make it pass the last one due to the firm going with another Candidate

Researching the job mkt & pay for nursing: It is so easy to set up a first interview esp. as a nurse. Set up a zoom meeting, in the zoom meeting ask abt job details and ask for the salary range. They will give it to you, and in my case it was the same range for both of the companies. (Hospice oncall nurse here👋). Then you fit in somewhere on that continuum based on education & experience—that where the negotiation comes in—they will make a case to place you as low as possible on the scale.

The tech job pays 15k more, but from what I can see will be a cluster and super long hours (has EU stakeholders). Maybe a pipe dream, but I want to have a "somewhat" decent wlb while still growing my career toward strategy and finance.

Thoughts on which one is better?

Why are sizable salary bumps offered for switching firms, even for the same role? What’s the methodical rationale for this practice? Is the initial increase somewhat sustained or quickly normalized?
