Maybe your teammate is unhappy they have the same role as you and thinks they've been taken for granted without promotions or when they got hired.
You should never go into negotiation saying person x makes more than me so I should get a raise. You needed to go in with how much worth you bring into the company. Or, interview elsewhere to know how much you're really worth in the market b

That’s never a good idea. I got bothered by it when I saw that other people have more PTO too
That depends how much work discrepancy is there
There can be a lot of variables beyond being in the same role. Ask yourself why you were happy with the pay before. Had you been checking market rates and seeing where you were? No harm in wanting more if you are worth it, but it shouldn’t take somebody else's paycheck to spur that.
Pay disparities can be for any number of reasons, and people in the same role may not be earning the same. One factor, which is often overlooked, is simply when someone came onboard. If you were hired when salaries are being pushed downward in a bad job market (like at present), you'll always be behind. If you came aboard when your skills were in demand, you may have started off at at higher salary and you'll increase from there. Anyway, you can ask for a pay match, but most organizations won't entertain that discussion.
