I have a trial coming up. I’m a woman. It’s going to be warm outside. Is it inappropriate to work out in shorts even if there’s a risk I’ll be working out at the same time as men on the team? (Yes, I’ve been in trial before; I wake up ass early and will have time to work out.)

Sometimes I try to tell myself “you’re just paranoid. People aren’t constantly judging every detail of what you.” Then I realize that there are a lot of people in this profession who worry about things like whether it’s “inappropriate” to be seen in shorts and I realize that they are definitely judging every detail of what I do.

Shorts as opposed to what?

like

As long as it’s appropriate for the gym/working out outside, etc, I think you’re fine.

like

I might skip the booty shorts but standard athletic shorts are totally appropriate

like

Wear shorts. It’s not inappropriate. You’re dressed to work out

like

If they are acceptable to be worn in public they are acceptable to be worn around colleagues and peers.

I see you’ve never been to a Walmart.

Not a problem at all. And good on you for getting up early to wake up before trial. Best of luck.

like

I wouldn’t think about this for one second

like

You all work out in the same outdoor area at the same time every day?

like

Ah. I’ve been in some that are freezing. Wear what makes you most comfortable.

Why would that be a problem?

like

I was worried they’d be too revealing, but seems like I’m being anxious for no reason

like

I doubt men would ever object or frown upon anything that could be considered athletic attire.

Additional Posts in Big Law

Mid 2020, I turned down an opportunity to jump ship from my small law firm to a big law firm. At the time I had 4 years of practice under my belt with managerial experience. I thought the offer was reasonable, come in at a 2nd year level, but with the uncertainty of the times I played it safe. Now I regret it. What avenues do I have, if any, to jump into big law from a small firm?

It's super frustrating to be "time poor".

That's seemingly just the nature of working in Biglaw.

But every day you have the option to buy back your time.

How do you buy back time?

It's simple—by saving and investing.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.
Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.
Now interviewing a LOT. Some temp work, I still have “it”. I relate to all gens. Willing to mentor AND learn from all. Tech savvy, CTE from day one. Leads?

Question for funds folks, since no one is around to answer any questions and I can't seem to find this answer anywhere. Why can't a placement agent combine or integrate the offering of interests in the sponsor's fund with the contemporaneous offering of interests in another fund? Is it based on reputational risk or from a sales perspective in case someone rejects both funds, any other issues? Thanks!

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

No other mid-levels I’ve worked with act this way and this individual I’m working with is driving me insane and I’ve spent countless hours attaching emails and saying “as explained in the attached email…”
