Look up the owners and research them. We have a trend in my area that our facilities are being bought by a certain religious sect (I'm trying to not sound prejudice) and they all have been sued and shut down throughout the country under various LLCs. They run it like a mafia, taking the money running facilities into the ground then leaving. (Remember national headlines about bodies in a shed at a NJ facility during covid?) That was Skyline. They disassembled, reincorporatee as Alliance, bought my building, We got shut down last May because they refused to fix the sprinkler system and other issues and they stole our insurance premiums and life insurance money and many of us have bill collectors calling for unpaid medical expenses since they took the money and never paid the ininsurance company. Place i work for now is no better and I'm trying to get out. I'm giving up on LTC. I'm giving up on Healthcare. They have been doing this for years under various names I've come to learn.
I totally understand,iv seen similar acts here in health care also .
Working in LTC is very hard. I also have worked in it for many years and things like you posted do happen more than people realize. But it isn’t just in LTC all of healthcare has turned into a business and lost the main focus of caring for the people. To be satisfied in LTC work you have to have one goal, to remind yourself you are there for the residents. You have to want to help and care for them. The rest of the job details are just politics. If you truly want to care for people any position is a good position but if you are looking for personal growth and financial gains you probably will be disappointed time and time again. It’s sad but what I’ve found to be true after 10 plus years in healthcare at various facilities.
This helped so much thank you
Always make your own opinion. It's possible they might have had a personal issue that they tried to make sound more than what it was as a disgruntled customer.

Reviews are more often completed by people who are dissatisfied than satisfied. It doesn't mean people aren't happy there or working there, they just aren't so elated they are motivated to post a review in favor. So take reviews with a grain of salt.
Personally, I think you should take the reviews seriously. Especially those on job boards.
No
Go for it and ask them to explain it...
Not to be negative but I have worked at nursing homes and I am currently working at a nursing home on weekends and I am looking for another job, it is horrible.I don't know why I took this job..thinking it would be different and the last nursing home I worked at I said I would never work another...I don't know what made me think this one would be different...
I've been in healthcare 36yrs with many certifications & job titles at different companies. I would go to the interview & make your own judgement. Also ask for a tour of the facility & speak to some of the residents that you see while touring the facility. Best of luck to you.
Take them seriously, but also walk the building. Does it smell, look in the rooms from the hallway, pay attention to call lights & how long they go off, look at the nurses desk, are they kicked back, do you see staff with residents or socializing with each other or social media.
Years ago, I took an interview at a long-term care facility and when I walked in the door, there was not a resident in the lobby, but all I could smell was pee. I went ahead and went through the interview process, but I knew that no matter what I would not take that job . If there had been resident's around, they could've just peed and that's not a fair assessment but when I can't even see another human body and I can smell body fluids there's a problem. From that experience, I learned how to judge before I walk in the door. The first thing you need to do is go to That facility or their company website and look up job openings. If there are more than two managerial positions, two administrative positions open at the same time you know that state most likely came in and wiped them out. So more often than not when I see a position open, And I have been a long-term care social worker for a very long time, when I see a position open I tend to see 3 to 6 other administrative/managerial positions open at the same time. I'm not touching that with a 10 foot pole. Some people may see it as a challenge to go in and build from the ground up. But more often than not you're also going to have high numbers of agency Workers on the floor and just like any department that gets a new manager it is such a cluster F until it all gets ironed out. I have no desire to walk into a building that every department is a cluster F waiting to get ironed out. Also new name new management new department heads… Check the latest survey results. Did they get any I's or J's? All of those are red flags.. I hope that helps. The problem is that all of that is true and it's very hard to find homes that don't have blaring red flags anymore.
Id also say that taking the review seriously isn't a bad idea, but it is public knowledge if there has been harm or survey results are terrible. I mean you can look all of that stuff up so if they're making those kind of reviews, are they filing claims? The other question is unfortunately, the higher the percentage of Medicaid beds The lower the quality of care tends to be. Also, I would avoid any facility that uses agency nursing or agency CNA's. Nothing against people that work for agencies but when you work for a facility that operates with agency care staff the incentive to do a good job when they may not be there tomorrow they could be anywhere else is not very highand when you're talking about people with dementia to not have a continuity of care to not have familiar staff members taking care of them working their way into their long-term memory there is nothing good that can come from that
Please use your own judgment because long term care is very rewarding and think what is your goal and what you can bring to continue in your career.
