Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Not at all in terms of getting offers from Big4. But the complete process from LCA to H1B approval is taking 3-5 months these days(assuming you will be joining after H1B approval)
Is it risky to join with just the receipt notice? Do the firms recommend joining like that?
I am still new to this field so just wanted to check.
Yes it's little risky joining on receipt.. you will loose your H1B status and will be out of status if , for any reason, H1 gets rejected.
Depending upon the firm.. but most are ok with joining on receipt... if you are single, not have much investment (like house, car, etc) you can take this risk.. worst case you will have to go out of country for couple of months if h1gets rejected and firm re files
Okay good to know. My wife works in the industry on H1B. Worst case - will switch to a H4. Thanks for the tips, guys.
Yes if no one is dependent upon you.. worth taking the risk.. make sure to check with firm HR on their policy on H1.. good luck .. if you coming to D. Welcome 😄
The thing is with the current time frames, I doubt if any firm will wait 6-8 months - joining on receipt seems to be the only viable option
Hmm makes sense. Let's see. I'll take a call when I actually get an offer. Will talk to the corresponding firm HR and make sure I know about their policies.
