I have over five years of experience as a customer service member in the banking sector in another country.Recently, I’ve been considering pursuing a banking career in Australia.
My English speaking skills are not as fluent as I would like them to be, I can effectively manage customer conversations and possess comprehensive knowledge of banking transactions. However, this concern has led me to question whether I should pursue a banking role in Australia. Would banks hire me?

I think you will be fine! Your challenge won’t be English but rather learning their rules and regulations. Australia is beautiful, I’m jealous lol.

Hey! This is a great question. It’s definitely something to work on but not at all impossible. You need a good plan to prepare for interviews and also the job itself.

I’ve worked with clients in the past coaching them on basics of managing their language skills in banking. I’d be happy to hop on a call, DM me

Hi. I’m in need of advice and encouragement. I’m currently working as a public defender(2nd year) but I would love to pursue a solo private practice. I would like to leave the public defender because I am ready to make more money and I am no longer feeling the fulfillment I once felt. I have a family and work-life balance is a priority. What is a good way to gain experience in other areas of law as a solo practitioner? What areas of law are best for maintaining a work-life balance?

I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. Thoughts on making the shift?

I've been a government attorney for nearly three years now and have worked in the same office/division since I passed the bar. I've yet to receive a promotion other than two cost of living increases (in sum, a pay increase of 6k over 3 years). I know this is meager, but I'm mostly ok with it, I just want to see some recognition. On the other hand, it's hard for me to imagine negotiating because (given my inexperience), I don't feel I'd be able to do better anywhere else. Any advice?

Question: do y’all really love this stuff and understand it? Or are you all on the “fake it til you make it” wave? I ask because I’m in a specialty group under the Corporate umbrella and many of the partners and some senior associates are extremely smart and clearly enjoy this stuff. Some even do “night time reading” to catch up on the recent laws. I, on the other hand, cannot wrap my head around it most of the time and would rather not waste energy doing it. Is it just me? What do i do? Quit?

Senpais, looking back, if you had known more about your specialty, would you still have chosen it? If not, which specialty would you have preferred to enter? And why?
