In this topic I learned school shootings didn't happen before Obama. I am shocked KPMG didn't somehow include Hillary, but him claiming to not know who Alex Jones is makes sense. He doesn't seem to follow the world around him, only things Hillary and Obama do that he can be offended about.
Why would you compare against Mexico? How is that relevant to the standards and laws of the US? The relevant comparison would be US outsourced vs US state-run across a spectrum of metrics - not only recidivism but health and well-being of the inmates.
There’s a stigma about government that it is bloated and wasteful and inefficient. I’m sure that’s true to some degree. The original idea was to save taxpayer money by outsourcing prisons to competitive for-profit orgs. In theory, sure, if you can provide the same service for less money, this could work - with a few MAJOR assumptions. Oversight and compliance with our values and laws, primarily. Instead we get what you’d expect - a race to the bottom with low-skill, low-wage, undertrained employees, understaffing, overcrowding, etc. but it continues because a) the right people are getting rich and b) to restore things to how they were would be unacceptably “soft on crime”, pampering criminals etc. America can be a really bad place to live if you’re not already rich and/or white.
America is (still) a good place for people who want to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.
Not so much for people do not. On the plus side, If you put those people in places like Korea, Japan, China, India, Vietnam they won’t last a week.
Which one you prefer? Mexico State prison or privatized prison here?
@KPMG I know nothing about Mexican prisons, but I’d certainly rather the UK state prisons than your US private ones.
UK has private prisons. Undermining the whole argument.

Mostly, yes. But when we focus more on punishment and less on remediation, coupled with social structures where you often can’t get a house or a job if you have a record, it’s really hard to “stay straight”. Basically the best way is to stay out of the system altogether, once you’re in it’s an endless spiral. And that leads to a discussion of whether crimes are prosecuted equally across society (hint: they’re not).
Yes I do, the main Democratic scheme including obama and Hillary is to keep people poor so they vote for Democrats generation after generation after generation after generation.
If that is not enough, let import some more poor people.
Quite a few democratic states are pushing to allow criminals to vote.
If we send fewer people to jail, how will the private prisons make money?
One emoji can sum this up... 💸💸💸💸💸
For you! I do not know who Alex Jones is. Apparently, you know him well. :)
All these had been discussed before - 30 years ago.

Sure, actual talent and hard work doesn’t hurt. But you can achieve success without any of the things you if you have the right kind of head start.
I’ll retract the last sentence of my previous comment because it’s not germane to prison management.
The fact certain prisons are privatized and the assumption it influences criminal courts is false unless you can prove it. We imprison more people than Scandinavia sure, but we have much higher rates of criminality.
RSM1, I think it influences recidivism rates. And it influences policymakers who decide which offenses require jail time

I don't see how the recidivism rate would be influenced. The criminals are the ones deciding to get out and commit more crimes.
A1 you may end up in a private prison in UK anyway even through you prefer state ones. :)
IMHO, the best way to reduce prison population is stopping tie welfare with kids. That eliminates the root cause for most of criminal activities -poverty in one or two generations.
Yup, we sure didn't have poverty before welfare came around!
Wait, you didn't blame Obama or Hillary for poverty. Would yoh like to edit your post?
