I’ve always wanted to know how long someone can stay employed without quitting at the big 4 just by doing the minimum. Can you please test this out? Just respond to emails on the phone and give vague reasons why you are not able to come into the office or finish your work. Let’s see how long you can stretch this out.

I’m not saying don’t quit, but please take some time for the news to settle and decide on your next moves. If you start buying houses and cars as quickly as you are quitting, that money won’t last very long. Put a plan in place to make thar $4.5M last.

OP, first off I’m so excited for you. That doesn’t happen often and you are blessed.
Why are you doing that though? Why not go in, tell the firm what happened, wrap up your work, then quit? Or if you really don’t want to wrap up then go in and hand them your laptop? Thank them for the great opportunity. I understand the desire for wanting to leave immediately given your circumstances, but don’t burn the bridge. You’ll either turn this money into a much greater amount in the future, you’ll lose the money, or something in between. In either case the firm and the connections you made can one day help you. $4.5M is a healthy amount of money but it’s not the biggest deal in the world (in the long run) and it certainly won’t buy you character. Don’t let some money define your personality in a poor manner to an entire firm. Good luck!
