I just recently got laid off and haven’t landed another job yet. I need to move my Vanguard 401k $ to an IRA account. Torn between traditional vs Roth IRA. Can someone suggest what’s best?Pros & cons?

Assuming 401k and not Roth 401k: Traditional IRA - straight rollover, no tax implications. Roth IRA - pickup the balance in income, pay taxes now, and remaining amount can grow tax free. The 401k contribution will be eligible for tax/penalty free early withdrawal since you’ve paid taxes on it. Don’t recommend early withdrawal unless you have substantial need for cash. Also assuming you made no post tax contributions to prior 401k

If you are going to have less income this year, and be in lower tax brackets, maybe a good time to convert to Roth. Item to consider

For benchmarking I think it’d be helpful for all on here to see starting comp. (undergrad or MBA) at top consulting firms: Firm: Base salary: Total possible per. bonus: Profit share: 401K:

Any thoughts on shifting 401k contributions from traditional to Roth with the new tax code changes? I'd imagine a lot of us benefit from lower tax brackets in 2018.

Why are people so bad at 401ks. I just overheard someone tell another person they should pay down principal on a car loan instead of putting the extra into 401k. WHY.

I make $4000/M after taxes and max 401K and spend about $2400 for all fixed costs (rent, utilities, etc). With roughly $1600 left, and with a strong goal of saving as much as I can, what are some recommendations on how I should allocate my money better. I know this is vague but need some better financial planning.

Our firm is rolling out voluntary hour adjustment/reduced salary and although they are saying this program is not mandatory, I feel pressured because we had few nationwide webcasts on this and partners calling personally to discuss. I understand the worst scenario is to be laid off and taking a reduced salary may be better deal for many. However, the salary here is peanut compared to what they pay in US and cost of living is high - I barely manage with the current pay. Starting to get anxious 😟

I booked a package (hotel+ flight) vacation through Expedia that got cancelled because of Covid, I was able to get my refund for the hotel but I can’t do it for the flight. The airline is telling me they’re gonna give me a credit with them but we were 8 people booking this vacation together, so having a credit makes is impossible ton manage. I Called the bank and they want a written proof that the flight is cancelled but the airline doesn’t want to send us any proof ... what do i do?

What would you do? I was recently promoted to be a senior and I’m on this project with an acting senior and associates. The acting senior would tell everyone, including me, what to do everyday before I get the chance to. I feel like he is stepping into my boundaries. I feel uncomfortable being told by him what I have to do when I know it myself. I feel like he’s my senior instead lol. Am I being oversensitive about this as a new senior? Or how would you address this?
