I have also noticed that utensils only appear if requested. I have gotten into the habit of asking for utensils, smh! But restaurants must save $ where they can…Many use the logic that guest is taking the food home and already has utensils. In reality, guest prob eating in car or at work…
What kind of restaurant? I don't think I have ever been to a place that offers takeout and doesn't have utensils available if needed. I would have been annoyed too, that seems like a bit of a silly choice on their part. Do they never offer them, or had they just run out?

Just a family run place that I’ve never been to. I just didn’t think to ask - I guess next time I will ask! On another note food was pretty good… so maybe I’ll give them another chance.
We don't do a big takeout business, but we have packets of utensils and napkins that we'll throw in the bag. I wouldn't doubt that some places try to avoid including them, as I guess the cost of them adds up. And some people may be bringing the food to their own house to eat it and don't need them anyway. But it seems like the staff should at least ask the customer if they need utensils.

You’d think they’d ask!! But nope - I didn’t even think of until I sat down to eat! GRR!!!
We only give out utensils if requested. The company is claiming it is for sustainability, but I think it's just a cost saving measure. We get a lot of angry calls and bad reviews because we never tell people they won't get there cutlery unless they ask for it.

That’s probably what it was! Cost savings! But I didn’t think to ask for cutlery - I just assumed it was needed. At the very least they should have a sign!
Oh no, that would totally throw off my lunch break too! I always appreciate when places include the basics without having to ask. It’s just a small thing, but it makes the experience feel more cared for. If you’re selling food to-go, the assumption should be that someone needs to eat it. Not including utensils or napkins is either a cut corner or a missed step in service logic. People get so busy that forget sometimes.
They're included with every order. We've got probably 20 years' worth of them stockpiled, so there's no reason not to. I would be majorly annoyed if I realized I didn't have any as I was getting ready to dig into lunch.
