Layoffs are always going to happen. It's the nature of our industry. Unfortunately my company had a reduction in force of 63% last August and I still have not found a new perm position. But the market is finally opening up and interview requests are coming in almost daily!
PLEASE...do not let this stop you from advancing your career and bettering your life.
When you become comfortable in a position it's time for a new challenge. That could be something new with the same company, or it could be something new elsewhere. I would highly recommend brushing up on soft skills as well as any new technical skills you can add. LinkedIn Learning is available through most local libraries for free, so check that out! If there is a position for advancement at your company that you are interested in, don't assume that just because you are the best candidate, you should be considered for it. You have to show up, apply and be the best applicant.
Now, if you want to stay, but there isn't a job available yet, or even if there is, the key is to make yourself visible to those that matter. Make people see that you are valuable. Whatever that means in your position. Start showing up in ways that others aren't. THIS is how you advance. THIS is how you stay relevant.
Best of luck to everyone here!
Yep. Stuck is the right word. I'd leave if I had something lined up, but I don't, so here I am. It's not a good feeling. Probably better than unemployment though.
Definitely better than unemployed but omg things are only getting more expensive
Talk about layoffs is not going to go away, I fear. It looks like a lot of companies are fixated on cutting costs, and if things get bad they'll start cutting staff. I'd be eager to move on to something else, but in this job market I'm content to hang on to the job I've got. One of those times when being stuck doesn't seem so bad, I guess.
Yea I’m trying to be positive about it but it’s hard
It feels like layoffs are just constant at this point. It used to be maybe every few years but now it seems that every year there’s another announcement across industries
I know right definitely makes me anxious
