I know it’s pretty early in the year but has anyone experienced burnout? Back in my old position I used to work 60+ hours a week, we even got a settlement due to the way they labeled us as hourly but was trying to pay us as salary employees.

Everytime I’m riding high, getting good work done, my boss has to come in and ruin the mood. Every time. Here’s to spending the rest of my day eating ice cream and watching tv while still working but less than before

Are all Big 4 firms equally tone deaf, or is it just EY? I feel like they don’t address the fact that people are leaving in droves and the ones left behind are burnt out - we continue to have these big growth targets, but fewer and fewer people to actually do the work.

Last year when Covid broke, I received a couple of interview calls but ignored them as I felt the organization kept me at work when other companies cut short their HR staff so I should be with them even if with no appraisal. But now, I was living in the fool's paradise when I am told to leave with no job offers in hand, car and home loan, dependent parents, expecting jobless spouse with a 3-year old kid.

Does anyone here work for any public accounting firms in the Charlotte area with a decent work life balance? I am looking to go somewhere where I can focus on a few clients for longer periods of time rather than constantly bouncing around. I find it much less stressful to put in longer hours if it's a client that I have been scheduled on long term.

I started a new job just 7 weeks ago, but an opportunity for a dream job just suddenly and unexpectedly fell into my lap! It’s a lot more money, more aligned with my career goals, and will have better work life balance. I’d be an idiot to not take this great new opportunity! That being said… I’m going to feel bad leaving this new job so soon. I’m sure they’ll be disappointed and maybe even angry… is there any way to NOT burn bridges on my way out of this current job?

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? PSA - We are headed into a self-imposed economic slow down. Now is not the time to lateral but if you do, I would make sure you are at a recession-proof practice or firm. The top law firms will be okay (they always are) but if you are part of a larger group of associates with no work, you are likely to be axed. Latham did it in the 2008 and 2011 and it will happen again. If you are an associate or really anyone but a rainmaker, you are expendable.
