I live in LA. I’m currently interviewing at McKinsey for a role offered in multiple cities outside of LA. It’s totally worth it to pack my stuff and make the move if I land this... but is there any chance that they would provide an option to stay in LA even if they don’t have an office here?

Is mckinsey one of those “boutique” firms everyone talks about? Good luck!! Hopefully you can use this as a stepping stone into a prestigious firm one day 😊

We do have an office in LA!

like

Not likely but it does depend on the role (CSP/ESP/FSP) and office capacity. You would need approval from the office managing Partner and regional office managing partner to add a headcount to the LA office.

Appreciate it. Ty.

Wut?

OP how did you get the interview? I applied directly on the MCK website, literarily 8-10 times last year, they always rejected me.

Got to know people. That's how I got interviewed but european arm but unfortunately didn't make the cut.

Has anyone who's worked in HR, Finance, or another role with visibility to compensation information been able to use that as leverage for salary negotiations?

To put it bluntly, I know certain people with less experience and a lower performance rating are getting paid more than me due to my role working with payroll data. I suspect this was due to the fact that I did not counter offer when I accepted this role, which was a few months ago, and now I regret it.

I interviewed for an internal opportunity a couple weeks ago (Engineer w/ 4 YOE to Product Manager role). There were a few other internal candidates, and I have not heard anything since the interview other than "we are still waiting on approval on some things from the president, but he has been out on vacation, say hang tight." That was last Monday and have not heard anything since then. Should I assume that I did not get the position? What is the typical turnaround time for internal ops?

Random, but valid/persistent thought.

After 2 years of a pandemic and working independently for many years, I am not feeling interviews AT ALL. There are points in the interview where I want to just say "Look! Either hire me or don't".

How can I get over this feeling? I'm over the whole "stand in the line of fire to prove how good I am" bs. Any recommendations for getting over this or possible industries to pivot into to avoid bs interview processes and ghosting?

I was told to apply to a hospital job by someone interested in interviewing me. The recruiter reached out. Asked for my availability but then didn’t respond when I gave her my availability. I followed up. We scheduled a phone call (she said she’d call) and then she didn’t call! At this point, I’m thinking they’re totally disorganized. Is this common practice? I’ve never dealt with a recruiter so I don’t know.

After working with them for 2 months it’s apparent that there are 0 consulting skills (excel, outlook, PowerPoint) and they freeze up even on internal calls. However at a company event they made no effort to get to know the team and chose to stick to their familiar colleagues in their home office.
