I missed my flight tonight to get to work tomorrow at 8 AM because of a gate change. Now I'm arriving tomorrow at noon. Am I getting fired?

What's up with all this "you millennials" blah blah? Jesus. Can you Gen x and boomers who's on this app chill out and stop generalizing for a change?

like

Who set an expectation of getting to client site by 8am on a Monday? That's crazy.

like

D2 - relax a little.

like

I doubt it

like

Travel issues happen but no excuse for not paying attention when the gates change, this happens all the time and you should know better. Won't get fired but you should not let it happen again.

like

God- I hope not.

like

I agree with D2, to the extent that it doesn't get you fired but it gets you put on the "he has issues" list. Don't tell people you missed it because of a gate change that you weren't paying attention to. Make up something else and say you had to rebook to tomorrow.

like

Highly doubtful, travel issues happen

like

Sorry this might be a millennial and being direct is probably going to earn me a call from his parents. So sorry A1. But really missing a flight for not paying attention is an unnecessary mistake. Missing due to delayed connections or car accidents or any number of other things is fine. But not carelessness.

like

Regardless of generation, not a good reason to miss a flight. I'd be surprised if a Gen X or Baby Boomer would ask if they would get fired for this.

like

If you provide value, you won't get fired. We don't even fire people who are worthless, let alone those who are late a few hours. I'm convinced you'd have to shit on the partners desk to get "fired"

like

The millennial tag is unwarranted, though justified. However, as a fellow millennial my advice to OP would be to make up a different excuse. Carelessness is not firable but it's a durable offense.

like

We should grab a drink!

like

Just let them know now you will be in at 12. Don't say it was because of the wrong gate.

like

@OP I hope you at least know to inform your project leadership tonight rather than just showing up at noon tomorrow.

Start driving now.

EY1 is either witty or dumb, can't decide...

Short answer: yes

I am a field marketer. I travel and cover 12 states. HQ is across the US on the east coast. My manager put a surprise calendar invite twice now to go to home office without consulting dates to see if we were available. I stood up and asked to be included on available dates and said I will attend virtually but asking me to be away for 4 additional full days away from my family without asking me is not OK. I already travel a lot and this boundary is super important to me. Am I right or wrong?

Can anyone comment on any perks or benefits they get at the companies I don't work for? I'm thinking company swag, travel to conferences or to meet with clients, leadership retreats, nice offices, vehicles, clothing allowances etc. Curious if there are any benefits to being a leader at any of the other firms. Thanks

Anyone else notice a trend with the mass amounts of layoffs in tech? Why are all their resumes so jumpy? Not like 2-5 years jumpy, like few months at a time jumpy? But still can land a position with similar tech giants? IMO, lots of these people get hired by their rich friends, stay a few months before someone realized they aren’t qualified and were just a recommendation from a current employee. Then repeat that process over and over until your company is down 50%

I’m seeing lots of posts about really bad losses. If you trade you’re going to lose money - hopefully not all the time, but many positions will be mistakes. But you need a process to find ideas and manage positions. Two books you should read are “The New Trading for a Livinng” and “The Laws of Trading.” Both look at psychology, process, and risk in different ways that can help you work out your own process. The next 18 months will be much harder than the last 18 - time to start learning.
