I would recommend netgear r7000 nighthawk
You will likely need a mesh system with two or three access points. One that I’ve used and setup coworkers on is the AmpliFi Instant by Ubiquiti. You could also check out google WiFi, but I’m guessing both of these will be out of your price range. You may want to consider increasing your budget to get something decent. Thinking about how much I rely on WiFi, especially now, I’m glad I have a borderline enterprise setup.

Ultimate $1000 gaming router xtreme!

Anything by Ubiquiti. +1 to SC1s suggestion of AmpliFi
They’re good but ridiculously complicated.

I like my Eero Pro. 1800 sq foot house with two stories + basement and I’m getting 250 mb/s everywhere (even in the yard).

One single Eero Pro. It’s on the main floor in the center of the house.

Netgear Nighthawk X4S R7800. A beast. You can get one for about $150.

Anyone know if the Apple AirPort express is just hopelessly outdated at this point as a router? My WiFi is terrible lately and I’m not sure why. When I hardwire in to the modem (provided by the cable company) my speeds are what they should be. I can’t figure out if everyone being home is just making the WiFi slow (I live in an apt building in NYC) or if something is actually wrong my modem.

Thanks, this is so helpful!
