I recently (about 8 months ago) shut shop and decided to pick up a job. My business was in pharma, and I want to continue being in this space. But I'm noticing that I'm not getting any response at all from the applications I'm putting in.. Is this what they call the 'founder experience flaw'? I believe I'm qualified, probably over-qualified, for most of these positions, but I'm now questioning whether it's the fact that I once called the shots that's hurting my chance at a traditional job. What are your thoughts?

OP, perhaps consulting will value your big picture knowledge in pharma strategy?

It’s not (necessarily) you..I’ve been out of work for 4 months..it’s a tough market. And with the economic uncertainty (some say we are in a recession already), employers seem hesitant. Best thing you can do is just keep applying to as many relevant jobs like I do - it’s a numbers game.

Yeah, the founder effect is real. And you can't blame the hiring side because they're mostly right in thinking that it'd be a hard adjustment to make. Also, owners are seen as generalists and most companies are looking for specialists. Do you categorize yourself as a generalist? You're better off networking instead of applying in the traditional way.

What was the business you founded?

Have you ever taken a job you know you will hate because you needed the money right away? I have a family to take care of. It's a matter of really ruining some of our financial future if we don't get money soon.

Expecting an offer this week or early next week, but want to know when you start negotiating the salary? When you receive the call from the company or wait until receiving the formal offer letter? And how should the negotiation start? Through phone calls or emails? Didn’t use recruiter for this position, so I don’t know what is the process here.

I've been avoiding breaking up with someone (I've been dating off and on for a year) for the past few weeks because I can't decide the best way to do it. We're not compatible long-term. He's not seeing anyone else and I've told him I'm seeing other people but he's starting to have relationship expectations for me since we reconnected a few months ago. Any tips for having the conversation? I'd prefer to do it via text but I know people say it's not appropriate and it should be over the phone.

Been getting some interesting ads in Georgia. Got a letter about how Jon Ossoff is going to destroy Georgia’s economy and attacking him and his character. This was generated by David Perdue.

Ossoffs response? Bring up all the ridiculousness Perdue has done and how he’s left Georgia in a worse position. Didn’t say Ossoffs name once, just said get rid of Perdue.

Negotiation in new offer: I’m moving from fully remote to fully in office (with chance of hybrid later) offer for associate director in quality in pharma for 170k base, 18% bonus and 75k equity. I’ve asked for a sign on bonus as I’m not eligible for annual next year and will be missing my current jobs bonus. I should hear tomorrow (asking for 28k). Thoughts about the offer? Should I ask for more equity or is that standard? They’re public (currently ~$20)should I get the hybrid option in writing?

I think this offer is well below par, but curious to hear what you guys think/if you have any comparisons?

Anyone know any biotechs/Pharma (ideally oncology-focused) that are looking for a VP (or even SD for the right TC) of BD/CorpDev and allowing for remote/travel models (if not Boston-based) or at least a Boston-based hybrid model? Feel free to share any company names with open roles or DM, if preferred.

I accepted a $115K base salary, 13% bonus, 10k sign on bonus (scientist supervisor) job and two weeks later, got a $135K base, 17% bonus, and 15K sign on bonus (Senior scientist role) offer from another company. Should I accept the new offer ? How do I tell the previous company about this? Also, I’ve already negotiated with the first company and the $115K base is the negotiated salary. I really do not prefer one company over the other. They’re both great! I’m very confused here. TIA🙏

Hi
Applied for a position in Johnson and Johnson Canada. Reached the final round 3 weeks back. After not getting any updates I emailed the HR a couple of weeks back. They responded back telling me that they’ll have an update for me the next week. Again I emailed them on Thursday asking if they have anything for me before the long weekend ( Good Friday & Easter). No response whatsoever. Will emailing them again be inappropriate? I desperately need this job
