I recently found out a colleague with less experience is making 15% more than me. I'm torn between feeling undervalued and not wanting to seem ungrateful for my current position. Has anyone successfully negotiated a significant raise after discovering a pay disparity? How did you approach the conversation without mentioning your colleague's salary?

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. In my initial conversations I was under the impression that I was in a different pay grade and asked for a salary 25k higher than the max allotted for my position.
