Our recruiters will also try to keep in touch and keep you warm, and we absolutely know that interviewing when we’re in a hiring slowdown sucks. On the plus side, you’re at the very front of the line for when we can lift the freeze or have sold work to hire to; we do this because we also try exceptionally hard not to lay anyone off. We made it through the ‘08 and COVID financial crises without cutting workforce, but that requires going into protect mode until we can accelerate out of the downturn.
Most every recruiter I know would be thrilled to have a check in with you every so often to keep up to date on your plans and share where we’re at - no harm in asking, and thank you for bearing with us!
I wanna work for Slalom just cause of this response! A+

I don’t see why it’s be a problem to ask them to keep you in mind. Being non-chalant while wanting a job seems counterintuitive
That’s a fair point
This occurred to me earlier this year. I decided to wait and stay at my current firm and see if Slalom would reach out in 6 or so months. I received a call from slalom about 3 months later, met with the recruiter, and the director I originally interviewed with & received an offer. I’ve been here for a little over 6 months now & love it. I really wanted to work at slalom and was able to wait it out which paid off. I think it’s up to the person if they’re willing to wait or if they genuinely want out of their current role. Good luck!! 🍀
Just be upfront about it, especially since it’s a hiring freeze, they don’t want to lose good candidates but hands are tied so they’d want to keep in touch for when the freeze is lifted.
I interviewed 2 years prior to actually starting. When I was offered the role initially it wasn’t the right time for me to change jobs so I asked to keep in touch because I definitely wanted to work at slalom just was a matter of timing. So the recruiter followed up with me 6 and 9 months later probably. When I was finally ready for the change I reached out and then 4 months later they had an opening. I think a lot of companies will say they’ll leave the door open in those cases and not actually mean it, but slalom really followed through on that
How has your experience been so far?
Had the same experience with Slalom recently. Spoke to half a dozen folks only for them to say they won’t be hiring for a few months.
I also plan on keeping in touch. I say circle back in feb and ask things are going then.
Yeah. I will admit that it was pretty frustrating to spend so much time and effort prepping and arranging my schedule to go through the process only to be strung along for more than a month after my case study with uncertainties about when they’ll be able to make an offer. I’ll circle back in Feb.
I started my interview process back in July and continue to chat with the recruiter every month or two. They have been great at providing updates on when projects may be coming and when the role might open up again for hiring.
All these responses from others are super reassuring to hear! I’m in a good position with my current firm so I’m happy to wait it out since Slalom seems to have everything I want in a long term fit.
We will start hiring again in January. We are growing our revenues by 30% next year and don’t do layoffs. So we are holding to see what demand says in January but my experience says we will go on a hiring blitz in the 3rd week of January or early Feb.
I was in the same situation last year. They asked me to follow up in about 3-4 months so I put it on my calendar and reached back out. Conversations went well and was given the offer. Unfortunately we couldn’t connect on comp requirements but overall it was a good experience. Good luck!
