I recently received a surprise call about a promotion to an Experienced Tax Associate with a pay raise of $78,000. After expressing my gratitude for the raise, I asked for consideration of a salary of $84,00 based on my master's degree background and previous accounting experience. A day later, I received a response denial of my request. I was already receiving a low salary. What are experienced tax accountant positions paid for a one-year experience? Was I asking too much?

I am terribly underpaid in my current org at 5.5 LPA after a recent promotion and annual appraisal. Another mid size consulting firm offered me 7.5 LPA but I am asking them around 9 LPA.
Am I asking too much or shall I take the offer of 7.5 LPA?
