I recently received an offer for an accounting role at a public college and was initially very excited about the opportunity. However, with the current uncertainties surrounding federal funding for education, I’m starting to worry about job stability in the long run.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated!

On the flip side, with increased scrutiny of federal funding oversight and compliance, the demand for quality accountants may increase and could mean better job security. Hard to know for sure and may want to try to get an idea of how the College is doing financially.

That's an interesting question. The plan is to cut education funding and end the Dept of Education. But it's a good question how that would impact something like an accounting job at a public college. You might be able to find out if the college has received federal grants. As for job stability in the long run, that's also hard to say. There's a very strong sentiment against education. And depending what part of the country you're in, maybe taking an education related job isn't a great long-term plan.

I’ve been asked by a client to coach their team on how to structure and write scripts for their corporate event content (e.g. panel discussions). I’ve happily had a crack at helping them but it’s a bit out of my wheelhouse - is this ask something that would ordinarily be given to an agency copywriter? Or would it usually be something a content or speech writer would do?
Either way, I’m happy to add the additional skill to my CV 😅

Got an offer from a big bank’s operation department (fund reporting analyst), currently at EY faas and I’m not happy here, should I stick it out here until I get promotion or jump now? The salary offered is about the same I get now ( a few K higher). but I’m worried about flexibility (not as many vacations, promotions) if I jump to industry :(

We had evaluations and normally we have annual raises. I think my salary is under market value at $68k (plus OT) in Los Angeles (5 years of experience). I was told I am one of the top employees in the firm. When I asked about a raise, I was told “when you think about it at your level 5k to 10k doesn’t really matter it’s the long term goal that matters”. What would be your response to that, to a partner who is making 500-600k a year?
