I saw someone in another bowl mention that they had to train their own replacement… and honestly, that shook me. I’ve never had to do that personally, but I’ve definitely seen people being asked to “onboard” new hires right before getting let go. It made me think—has anyone else experienced this? Or had to train someone and later realized it was for that reason? That feels so wild to me.

I literally saw this happen last month. My project marketing manager was spending a good couple of weeks creating training and SOP documents for a new PMM hire that was joining the team. Suddenly, she was sacked with no warning in the middle of the day and week, and the new PMM was onboarded (using the same SOP docs the previous PMM created) the following Monday.

Sadly, this is happening every day in corporate America. They'll go to contract workers first, then offshore to Canada or Mexico, then Eastern Europe or SE Asia. There are many companies that do this as business services like Genpact, EY, TCS, Infosys, Capgemini, etc.

It definitely happens! They want to stop paying the higher wage of the person who's been there for a while and bring on someone who is willing to work for less :(

Does anybody has tips or advices on what I should expect as a new hire and how I can set myself up for success? Thanks!

Loan payment question. I have two federal loans. One has no accumulated interest and is ~$110k. One has about $19k of accumulated interest (I previously made an embarrassingly low amount of money), but the total is ~$140k. While the interest is still frozen, do I: 1) make payments on the $110k principal amount only to maximize driving it down; 2) make payments on the $140k principal amount only to maximize driving it down; 3) make payments on the $19k of interest on the $140k loan; or 4) ??

I’m negotiating my salary, and I’m curious what a reporter/digital editorial lead makes at your company? I have 15+ years of experience in employee communications and TV news, and I live in the Seattle area. I think I’m being shortchanged bc I’m asked to do some of my previous manager’s responsibilities (he was promoted), but I’m paid as a reporter. I report to my director who reports to our SVP, and I’ve worked for this Fortune 20 company for 10 yrs. Any info would be helpful. Thank you!

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.
