I support companies that are removing DEI initiatives.
You misunderstand what diversity, equity, and inclusion is, which is deeply alarming if you are genuinely human resources.
I have mixed feelings. I was listening to NPR and a woman who owns a Black owned company that makes hair products for Black people pointed out that her products still sell at Target. Boycotting hurts her and other individuals helped by DEI.
That was another thing I was thinking about also. While we can shop for some of the items online directly through these black owned companies, it hurt their storefront sales because they cannot just pull their items from the shelves. There are contracts and other things to worry about
Yeah, this is a tough one. I totally get why people are frustrated when DEI programs are removed. I think not supporting companies can send a message, but at the same time, it does limit options and potentially hurts small business owners. I try to balance my values with practical needs, but it’s hard when the bigger picture feels so important.
Two maxims for life:
1. Those with the gold make all the rules in every corner of the world.
2.Money rules and everything else walks. As a customer, I could care less about your hiring policies as long as I get a great product at an affordable price. If you don't believe me, then go to any Walmart and see if people have stopped shopping.
People who say they are no longer supporting companies that are moving or scaling back DEI are customers of one or more Fortune 100 companies. Amazon and JPM are scaling back big time, but Amazon owns the online shopping market because people still want their cheap, Chinese, landfill products delivered to their front door. Don't listen to what people are saying about DEI. Look at what they are really doing. Amazon, Walmart, and Target are the largest retailers in the country with or without DEI.
