Finding a happy medium might be best! A lot of firms here in NYC have a 3 days in with two days remote policy.
It more common for in-house roles. Hybrid is about all you can find for a law firm. I agree it’s nonsense; I was driving from the burbs to downtown every day just to sit in an office and have no one talk to me all day. Why can’t I be at home? Now I work contract and I’ll never go back. My life has improved greatly.

Not to sound like a boomer but 5 days a week was the norm for decades and unfortunately is likely going to be the norm going forward. I would suggest making adjustments to your lifestyle and learning to adjust your commute. Can you take public transportation? Can you find a job closer to your residence to avoid a long commute?
Okay boomer but houses in the cities where the good jobs are cost too much for a paralegal salary, so we don’t actually have these choices. Back when you guys were coming up your houses cost $80 and a goat; I can barely afford my $300k house 30 miles away from the good jobs. And ironically, can’t afford that if I work at the firms near that house. And when 100% of the work can be done remotely (I know, because I’m doing it), it makes no sense to have to go in 5 days a week. Boomers are the ones who need to change with the times.
I think with more millennial and gen x attorneys coming in, there is a higher chance down the line to do a relaxed hybrid schedule and/or fully remote a week or two if communicated and you prove you are doing good work. Firms will miss out on good paras and LAs if they don’t allow flexibility on WFH.
It’s tough when you feel stuck. Have you thought about taking the plunge into freelancing or contracting? It could give you more control over where and how you work.
