I started an in-house gig three weeks ago. After accepting the offer but before starting, I found out my wife is pregnant. We just had the ultrasound, and so far, so good.

When is a reasonable time to tell my company? She is due in late May or early June. My concern is that I am a solo General Counsel, and I don’t really have anyone who can do my work. Ultimately, I want two weeks off and maybe every Monday off depending on how things go.

Need some advice here…I’m about 3 months in and a senior male associate told me to just google it when I asked him a question. I told him that hurt my feelings. After apologizing that he said that meanly but was just offering advice he has completely stopped responding to me. Was I oversensitive? Just not sure what’s going on here…

I work at Google Cloud in solutions engineering (I help develop quantitative business cases with sales teams for customers). My cash base + bonus is $220k (going to ignore equity). I have an MBA from the University of Chicago, not that it matters much in sales. I have always been in a consulting role but I think I can make more in sales. I have a competitive personality and I am bored.

We started back in August in distance learning mode, core subjects only. So no STEM classes. One of our 8th grade teachers was out on maternity leave, so I was asked to take that spot for the first semester. I was a long time 5th grade teacher, so not a difficult adjustment, except for learning new to me digital curriculum.

I have 2 STEM classes for the second quarter. Still online, so my focus is on coding.

Over the past year, my counsel is constantly judged by a select few senior business folks (eg arguing over FTC compliance, IP risk counsel, and even simple things regarding NDAs that any attorney wouldn’t question. It’s very frustrating that my own team is the one I have to defend my logic to (and not opposing counsel). When my job is to handle all the corporations issues does it ever get hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel? Like that this business will survive? It will get its next round of funding? This litigation won’t wipe us out… something’s I just become very pessimistic about the future of the company.

Very specific to retail and/or hospitality in-house roles: has anyone found a good solution for predictive scheduling? Our retail division has one set of software for scheduling and one for payroll, and neither of them can handle predictive scheduling compliance issues unless they’re used for both the scheduling and payroll functions. I’m coming up empty on ideas for them to bridge the gap, but I’m also new to my compliance counsel role, so I would be overjoyed if anyone has suggestions.
