Let them. Don’t worry about it. They’ll leave or they won’t. Make sure you’re not treating them poorly, and then it’s up to them. Attrition is normal.
Lmao what are you gonna do? Forbid them from interviewing?
Offer to be a (personal) reference and let them know exactly what your pros/cons about them would be (trust is hard to find)
“My staff”
Take a deep breath and relax. It happens.
To start: don’t refer to them as your property.
Probabaly too late that you start to care when they are interviewing. Do a better job to avoid next time, not really blaming on you, but people can leave because of bad bosses. Obviously for money
Youre assuming a bad job has been done simply because they are interviewing?
From another perspective - I’ve found that retention and morale is much better when your people see that you are doing your best to move their careers forward by providing training (OJT and formal) and giving them responsibility as fast as they can handle it (with the right support). Some may decide to leave, but you will reap indirect benefits later. From reputation to referrals, and of course, from remaining team members. This is a long-term perspective, but it has served me well.
I had a senior manager think I was interviewing. I was planning my wedding.
You should be a champion for your staff... ask them if they need a bit of flexibility or interview tips.
If my staff leaves for a better job, I would be genuinely ecstatic for them. Help them see this... "if there is anything I can fix for you to feel better here, let's do it... if not, I will be supporting your career aspirations 100%"
Loosing a good employee sucks, but it’s out weighted by seeing someone you manage grow/develop and have a successful career (regardless of where is it). If you are good to them they will remember you.
Support them. Let them check their options. See whats really best for them (not for you or for your company).
Everyday i see some people locking in employees even though they’re obviously not happy anymore. Its sad and disappointing to see.
One staff or several? Do you want them to stay or leave? Have a conversation with them. Ask them if everything is ok, if they have any issues or concerns. There’s a chance they might boomerang back and you will be their connection. It also might uncover issues in your team.
Talk to them ask them how things are going, are they happyetc. If not find out why and see if you can fix, if not offer them help
Just make sure your staff is not interviewing with your clients
Replace them and wish them luck
Some things are out of your control. This being one...
Pay them more if you would like them to stay haha.
I’d pour a couple fingers of bourbon, put my feet up, and reflect on what I enjoy about working with them. Then take them to lunch and tell them - regardless of whether they decide to leave.
Sugar coating will work against you. No situation is perfect. Have a conversation and get more details about why they may be wanting to leave.
Always keep your recruitment eyes open.
