I was just hired for a seasonal position. I was never told that the position would be a "contract position" and I would be receiving a 1099. It scares me that nothing will be going into my Social Security. I never expected that to happen! Should I take the job anyway or run? It's been difficult finding work, so I felt that something seasonal would be good in the meantime.

It's a good opportunity to take the job until you find something better. Take it but keep applying. Having some income, even if they aren't giving you benefits, is nice if you have bills that need to be paid. But keep in mind that 1099 positions need to pay their own taxes, so you're going to need to save about a third of your paycheck for when taxes come around.

Thank you!

I'd take it, anything is better than nothing. I've done 1099 work before out of necessity. You have to be sure to withhold your own taxes since you don't have an employer to do it for you, but it really isn't that bad. Do it for as long as you have to and leave as soon as you get a full time offer.

Thank you. I was thinking the same thing but I think they should have disclosed that from the beginning.

Take the job. Social Security will be going away soon with our current president!

Social Security has been in trouble for a long time. Every president since LBJ has a hand in not showing it up. The projection for 'depletion' is 2034. Don't go around making uninformed statement. Especially about something that affects all working Americans.

Otherwise school bus companies are in desperate need and I switched from HR/Payroll to bus driving, it pays more y better hours..plus if you have a small one, they are able to ride with you.

Go to IRS.gov and request quarterly payments. You should even still be able to make it for the last quarter which will pay taxes on 1099 earnings for Oct. Nov. Dec. You can also complete a 1040S when filing your tax returns. If you have legitimate, written and receipted proof of expenses against that income... File Schedule C.
My advice sit down with a tax pro and see which option will be most advantageous. Lots of things are possible especially if you have W2 income, children, etc... call H and R Block and make an appointment. They can help you look at all the options, help you get set up for you 2025 tax return and then prepare for you. Best of luck.

Hello Fishes, I interviewed at a company in October and they responded to me after a month. I accepted the verbal offer last week Wednesday. They said they would give written offer in a week. I have recruiters from the same company reach out for positions at different locations. My current recruiter said once I accept this I can't interview for other positions at the same company. Their process is so slow that I don't really want to miss out on any chance. What would be a great time to follow up?

Has anyone ever posted a general marketing position? We have an open position on our marketing team but we are unsure what type of position to offer. We have a wide variety of needs but don’t necessarily need to have this future person have all these skills. For example we need someone with great copywriting skills and also need someone who is great at digital marketing. This person doesn’t necessarily need to have both skills but if they did great, but if only one, great too.
