I was just offered a new job as a therapist for a non profit. Their background check takes 8 weeks. Is that normal?
They said I could go ahead and start and if the background check showed anything they didn’t like they would just let me go when the time came.
I’ve never been “provisionally hired” before and the part that bothers me is I’m moving from Ohio to Oregon for this job. I’d like them to be sure before I move 33 hours away.

I don't blame you for being alarmed by that. I've never known anyone to start a job with the background check still pending. It doesn't even seem like something an employer should do, I mean, they'd be letting an unvetted person into the organization, if even for a few weeks. That seems really odd. I'd be very worried about uprooting myself and moving across the country, knowing that they could find some excuse to let you go right after you arrive. I think it would be a lot more wise to make sure everything is settled before moving.

Well they said they need me to start now and there’s no way they can wait for their background check that takes 8 weeks. If I can’t start they will have to rescind their offer and go with someone else. But still if they see anything they don’t like they will let me go. It doesn’t seem fair. If I commit then they should commit and if they can’t then they should wait. Am I right for feeling like this?

I have until after Christmas to give them an official start date and to be there and they are thinking the first Tues of January and again not much flexibility with not much promise either.

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. My boss won’t stop sexually harassing me. Verbally, email, texts - 400+. He even set up his office with a display of sex toys and edibles condiments to show me that he planned to give me oral sex. All started 3 weeks into the job. I moved my family cross country for this job and just bought a house. He promises me none of his requests or my responses will affect my job and is just begging now to be friends with me. Tell me what would you do if you were me.

Wondering if anyone can share the approximate timeline after applying to Target Corp. to hearing something from them. Applied 9/1 and on the applicant portal the status still says “in progress.” I got a great internal referral, but I’ve not reached out to the hiring manager. 😬 I know there were a few hundred applicants — what’s a realistic timeline and what could I say to the hiring manager if I reach out to them. Many thanks.

Good morning!

Still trying to figure out this whole Fishbowl thing, so here goes my first post.

I would love to get into provider credentialing, but all employers I've looked at want at least 3 years of experience. So, I'm looking at Provider Network Coordinator roles, because I'm finding some of those roles don't need AS MUCH experience. I'm a RHIT, and have been working in healthcare for nearly 10 years.

Any input on employers is appreciated!
