I’m so sorry to hear that you’re going through this. I wish you all of the luck and the good vibes. Don’t give up, keep pushing!
OP would you be willing to DM me? Have heard about some freelance opps around the office. I can send your stuff along.
Freelance for account management? If so, great!
Hey SVP OP, just saw Saatchi Wellness is looking for freelance Account- nice peeps there- as is a small shop Dead As We Know it, which I know of. try something contract & keep looking. I’ve been interviewing lots including client side; happy to share POV. For now I see a fair amount of Sr Account roles. It’s about meeting people, opening doors..ie, once I realized Sr producer titles didn’t abound & started applying for “producer”, things opened up.
Very cool, thank you!! 🙏😀

OP. Think of finding your new gig like new business activity. Define your target (shortlist the shops you want to work for/are most likely hiring). Put in the work. Do your research. Try to get a meeting with staff. Learn. Get some deep understanding of what their needs/weaknesses are. Position yourself as a solution. Find the key decision maker. Craft your message. And repeat. It may not work every time. But keep at it. You can make it happen! Good luck.
Go wide. Find a product or brand launch to support. Be a mentor. Cast yourself as a pitch monster.
Getting laid off this week. 14 years exp. (media). Laid off early last year, lasted 8 months as it is. Should I avoid VP, SVP roles? Seems like if you're that senior and you get laid off, good luck in this ageist industry. Thoughts?
not a bad idea. I’ve a long time colleague who was a Sr producer forever. For years we were like - why hasn’t she been made Exec Prod? But would u know it, she survived countless layoffs. If you can earn what you need, invest, be prudent, no sense in being the big cheese that Finance is waiting to chop. Unless you’re C-suite, it’s that upper middle management that’s vulnerable I think. The only reason I was kept for years is because my Sr title was so underpaid, ha.
I’m so sorry. It’s really hard. If I were you I would get the hell out of advertising. Honestly A big part of me would rather work in a tollbooth.
Ugh I’m sorry for all of you having to wade through unemployment. Got riffed in April and it’s been tough. Agree with all suggestions to be a freelance “pitch monster”. It’s also a great way to make connections, check out the vibe at other agencies, etc. There is also a good site called Work It Daily that doles out great advice on networking, structuring your time and the nuts and bolts of job search.
