You start working for the company on OPT first
It’s much easier to do if you go to school in the US. I did my undergrad in the US, then switched to a work visa, and then a green card.
If you are outside the US, it is harder. People from India do this regularly, but they tend to have elite educational backgrounds.

You are wondering about how so many people get jobs in USA and on visa.
There are two ways most people get it - 1) study in the US and then join an employer during OPT period and then the same employer sponsor their H1b visa; 2) work for a large MNC in your home country and ask for transfer to their office in the US. They will do the visa for transfer to the US.
Third option is only in rare circumstances. You have some specialized skills that a potential employer is ready to sponsor to bring you to the US.
Did you got internships during your PhD? I believe you have OPT for 3 years.. i recomend get whatever you can and work your way up. That’s what I did. No one would hire me but I kept applying and eventually built some experience that allowed me to get sponsored.
To give some context, I am currently not in USA, never was (except business visits) , I never studied in USA, and never worked in USA.

Then it’s very hard for you. You may have to find a staffing company and they can try to find an employer for you. Then the staffing company will apply for H1B while you’re in your home country.
My company sponsored my H1B even though I studied outside the US and had never set foot inside US before joining. Have to look for employers who are able to do so
This is extremely rare though especially because H1B is lottery based. More common route is through L1
If a company really wants to hire u, here is what’s gonna happen.
1. File in Feb for lottery. Exit 1 : Not picked in lottery
2. Get thru lottery, File paper work in Mar/Apr, Exit2 - Not selected due to credentials
3. Get Approval in mail, Get date for Interviews, Exit3 - Rejected in Interviews.
4. If u do cross the first 3 Barriers, u can only start working after 1st October 23.
Think from the Company perspective: why it would wait 11 n half months for u (with lot of WhatIF scenarios) to start working for it.
TN visa instead of H1B. No processing time required
