Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

As someone who’s used to live in a city, not enough money can convince me to move from Houston to Killeen. On a separate note, $80K salary for process engineer w/ 5 year+ experience is below market.
I’d ask for more for having to live in Killeen
Killeen is a military town and there is not much to do. I was there for 6 years and it is very boring.
Lol @ Killeen.
Ask for more. As a recruiter, never take the 1st offer is usually a low ball. Raise it by at least 2% more
2%?
My bf got 72k at Honeywell right out of college as a chem e grad. 80k sounds very low
Seems low. I started my career in chemical engineering 20 years ago at 85k as a process engineer. If real, there is serious wage stagnation
Have you been to Kileen OP?
I was offered 75k fresh out of college to do Reliability Mechanical Engineering in south Texas…. In 2015 lol. 80k is too low. Remember if you work at a plant, the price needs to go up.. built in hazard pay lol
Yikes Killeen! 80 is low but still a good salary to live there.
