I work at a larger firm and an attorney that I am not assigned to asked me to help with ordering subpoenas. I agreed since it was an easy and simple billable project. Then, I was asked to help with drafting discovery. Since this was not my case, I was not entirely familiar with the docket — apparently, this case is going to trial next month and now I am expected to be the paralegal on this case. I’m upset because I have a lot going on with my assigned attorneys/cases. Is my reaction justified?

Absolutely! You may want to confer with the other attorneys that maybe affected by this sudden responsibility. Ask them how to handle or if you have a paralegal manager confer with that person. No matter what it will affect all the other attorneys if you’re pulled into this trial.

1000% justified. I had something similar happened to me and I spoke up. It's completely unfair to you that being a hard worker and good at your job means you get rewarded with more work, that is stressful and could affect your cases you've dedicated a lot of time to.

During interview I was speaking to the hiring manager. Felt interview was going well. He seemed impressed by my answers, excited by my skills, and even gave me a tour of the office. At the end, he asked about my home life. When I spoke of my 3 young kiddos, the manager got a little taken back and replied Oh you have children? I said yes ages 3, 5, and 7. He then proceeded to ask me about daycare arrangements and if I can be reliable. Red flag as his demeanor changed and made me feel unworthy.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

(1/2) I started a new job less than a month ago at a large firm with a significant pay increase. I work remotely- which is a special arrangement. They paid for my travel to their headquarters for in-person training. After interacting with my manager and some of the attorneys, I feel like I made a mistake. Manager is demeaning and rude. A bunch of the attorneys dropped not so subtle hints that people who work from home are causing all kinds of problems. I don’t know what to do.
