Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

You’re likely to find more information if you find a lateral position that uses your skills. Then you can find a salary range that fits. I used the following prompt with ChatGPT and it came back with 7 industries, each with at least two transition options:
“I have a friend who works in aerospace as an engineering technician with advanced experience in polymerics and circuit board design. He wants to know what transferable jobs there might be, since there is no more work for him in aerospace.”
Here is an example of the response—
6. Renewable Energy / Electronics
• Solar Panel / Electronics Technician – PCB work for inverters or energy monitoring systems.
• Battery & Energy Storage Technician – Advanced electronics, materials, and thermal management.
Let me know if you’d like to see the rest of the results it gave me.
You’re in for a long journey. Do some research into your company, its competitors, make a list of your target companies. Get on LinkedIn, find similar companies, see if you have any alumni’s in your network. Cast a wide net. Keep the initial conversations casual, share your knowledge, build report, then ask for introductions. Good luck.
