I work for a brand with a long history and am curious.
For those of you working with legacy brands, how do you approach keeping brand traditions alive while continuing to evolve and modernize the voice for Gen Z audiences?
I would love to hear how others balance that!

You could really have a lot of fun with that. I wouldn't devote a huge amount of your content to nostalgia. But if you've got access to old ads or old artwork, you could maybe do something playing up the vintage aspect. The fact that the brand has existed in different eras is interesting, and showcasing some of that could intrigue your audience.

That’s a great reminder — I probably should have a little more fun with it. It’s tough sometimes with the content I’m working with, but I do love the idea of a vintage feel. I think there’s a way to use that to connect with Gen Z and reinforce the brand’s trustworthiness at the same time. Definitely gives me a few ideas — thank you!

It helps when you have leadership who don’t stick with “that’s the way we’ve always done it.” They innovative thinking is part of the goals in our performance reviews. More effective ways of working ultimately saves the company money.

That’s so true. Having leadership that encourages innovation makes such a huge difference. I’m definitely learning how important it is to keep pushing new ideas while also respecting the brand’s roots. Thanks for the reminder!

Can anyone let me know the benefits at Accenture?

Hi so I need help. I currently work to bring clients into the company i work at for web design, social media management, and brand strategy. I also do this as feeelance on the side, so where do I draw the line between who I refer to the company I work for or who I personally do freelance for? I don’t want to short out the company I work for but also love freelance and am more than capable of the work.

I’m job searching right now and applied for a job I was a little overqualified for just to shoot my shot and get my foot in the door with a great brand. The hiring mgr took the time to email me to tell me I was overqualified and offered to help me get connected to his network. He’s been so kind and helpful and I’m kind of in shock at his generosity. Even if an offer doesn’t come from it, is it weird if I send him a Starbucks gift card or something as a thank you? What’s appropriate?

First off - thanks for any help!

After doing freelance for the last two years, I’ve decided to go back to the corporate world. I’ve been applying a ton of places but keep getting turned down immediately - not even a first interview and I can’t figure out why.

I feel like I have a lot of good accolades as far as awards, a graduate certificate program board I’m on, really good stats from my previous work, etc.

I have 7 years experience. Are people looking for someone w/ less experience/cheaper?

I have worked in marketing for about 6-7 years. First few years were in social media management. My goal is to work at a big tech company.

CTR, contracts and department overhaul

our marketing dept is undergoing a complete overhaul. under old leadership, a $75k 12-mo contract was signed to a marketing group that handles our SEO, blog and everything Google Ads. All things I can and am in training to do. Current CTRs on G ads seem pitiful at no more than 0.75%. My meta ads coast around 4-6%. During this overhaul, would it be wise to not renew our contract, and negotiate for me to take over these roles and leverage a raise?

I’m interviewing for a start up and the role sounds interesting. Usually for the “test” part of the interview I’ve had to analyze data. This company wants me to develop a growth strategy that outlines key initiatives for growth, different opportunities, experiments I’d run, KPIs, and working cross-functionally.

Is this a lot for an interview?

I’m a little afraid of doing all this work to then just have them take my ideas and not hire me.
