Give the standard 2 weeks, put some effort into transitioning your work, then go. Congrats on the offer. That is a great jump.
Chief
It is what it is. They’d fire you without second thought.
Full transparency I left in the middle of busy season in January myself. While certain people were angry the ones who cared about me actually weren’t mad at all as they knew I’d get my stuff done before I left and I did.
They’d fire you without batting an eyelash. A woman on my team bought a house. The whole time she was talking about it. She was a single mom. One week after she bought the house they fired her. Savings gone with two kids. Take your offer if it’s good
Same happened to me. Firms fire people without even thinking about it.
I’d be upfront and transparent with your current employer. Two weeks’ notice is standard, and while it’s tough during busy season, they’ll likely appreciate the professionalism. Just make sure to tie up loose ends, and if you're feeling guilty, offer to help transition before you leave.
That's a great jump ahead, and you'd be foolish to pass it up. You should definitely take it. Just be professional and give proper notice with your current job and offer to make your leaving as easy as possible.
Hey congrats on that! Look at the end of the day, I’ve seen people get fired/laid off during or right after busy season with no notice. Two weeks is plenty! Telling whoever you have to tell will be the biggest hurdle.
If they had to fire you, they will not provide any notice.
I uderstand about your relationship with the team but even your partner can't fight for you if you are in the layoff list.
2 weeks notice is sufficient, connect with your superiors and transition the work, help out during this time to keep good relations.
Congrats on the new job.
What was your position and your new one? That’s a huge improvement. Take it if you haven’t had any short term employment yet.
Senior to manger. Been with the company short of two years and my previous position was 3.5 years and 1 year the other.
Go. It's public accounting. You already know how it is with turnover.at the end of the day everybody moves on.
Would they give you two weeks?
Looks like a solid upgrade on all fronts. Unless the firm is looking to match you, I’d leave.
2 weeks notice is fine. Since it’s busy season, nobody will be happy about it. But all you need to worry about is staying professional about everything. Finish up your work, pass it off, then call it a day. Your watch has ended.
If you’re concerned about burned bridges, you can ask the new gig to see if they can wait until after busy season ends.
If your new employer allows you to delay your start day, then you can push it to after busy season. If they don’t, I think 2 weeks are good enough. People come people go. They will be fine.
Why would you delay? At that salary bump, you’re losing out on at least $7,500 over the next 2 months
As long as you give the two weeks and are helpful with the transition, any negative reaction/burnt bridge says more about that person than it does about you
