How soon would be too soon to leave a first job? I’ve recently started my first job with a small firm and have enjoyed the people and the work. However, my pay is based on what I bill. At first this sounded fine, as my billing rate is very good and I take home a third of what I bill. But there has been so little work for me to actually do that I’m beginning to worry this isn’t financially feasible long term. Thoughts?

AWS vs Cloudflare BDR roles

AWS lowballed but I negotiated to match Cloudflare. Cloudflare offers more equity but AWS has a higher base.

I love Cloudflare. The people are great but it’s an engineering culture and the sales team isn’t as well shaped up and I can’t go for a promotion until at least 18 months of tenure. I am an investor in the company and think of them super highly. I’ve already got half a years SDR experience and AWS promotes quicker.

One of my senior managers is a boomerang and told me she was laid off when she was 7 months pregnant about 10 years ago. I think she was a senior or manager. She was in a specific group and everybody was laid off. It wasn’t performance based.
