Your own mind, basic training is designed to make you stop thinking how ever you think. And make you think they way they want you to. And to build mental muscle memory to carry out your job under highly stressful environments.
You’ll need to be able to function as a team even when you don’t know or get along with strangers.
Mostly the biggest challenge in basic is you!
The rest of the military life is focused on what ever job you are assigned.
Most on the job training is Terrible. My advice is Have a better learning technique for yourself. As soon as you get there on your first day ask about your training. Get your 5 level ASAP. Make sure your financial situation is handled.

Good question. How old are you? I’ve been in 30 plus years, Senior enlist and field grade officer.
I ask how old you are for this purpose, it’s a job, and as at any job you ARE going to work for some really horrible people. You WILL work for some really great people. Don’t get wrapped up in awards, for it is merely ribbon, your evaluations are much more valuable.
You WILL move every 3 years or so, it’s literal an adventure. I’ve been around the world 3 times over 20 different countries!
Not everywhere I went was for combat.
The job pays exceptionally well, the healthcare benefits are good but they are at no cost to you.
Get up everyday, do your job, be motivated. Stay in the gym!
Don’t get married until you make E6. Trust me. You’re bring in a person to the military that didn’t sign up for it. It can really hurt your career, if they aren’t independent and mature.
I find that the most difficult part of being in the military is the moving around. We have moved 3 times in 4.5 years. It’s a lot. Other than that, I absolutely love my job- just be prepared to move a lot.
