Yes
Yes absolutely. This was literally taught to us first week in 1L - you shouldn’t be posting any political or religious things on social media in general (especially if they’re controversial).
I mean in private practice I represented a wide array of ethnicities, religions, political ideologies, races, cultures, etc. If I was posting tons of religious or political content, I could alienate large groups of them. Same with even getting employed by a firm or corporation - I’ve worked for Christians, Jews, and Muslims. If I posted polarizing religious content or about certain geopolitical issues, it could’ve easily cost me a job.
I’m pretty devoutly Catholic and only post mildly religious content on Instagram and facebook (a pic of me and my kids at Church, a screenshot of a prayer, “Merry Christmas/Happy Easter”, etc.). But if I were to post about my feelings justifying the crusades or proselytizing Christ aggressively, I don’t think my Muslim CEO or Jewish GC would appreciate that. I also wouldn’t have gotten hired if was posting MAGA stuff or “Free Palestine” leftist stuff.
Not sure whether they can still find you, but I put all my soc med on "private," where only my followers can find my posts.
Is the sky blue?
Yes
Does your office have a social media policy or require you to be impartial? I'd ask the person hiring me about that.
Yes. ASAP
