Not sure if you can use that loop hole any more. Typically that's for domestic flights because on BA you can tickets for 9k miles. To London make sure you take an AA operated plane if using advantage miles for lower tax. BA flights hit 3x the tax for some reason - did it this summer.
You can't transfer AA miles to Avios.
A1 BA metal flights pass on the fuel surcharges, AA metal flights do not. To be honest OP, you might be better off just doing a paid fare, London isn't a great points redemption.
Yea I spent 180k points for 3 return saver tickets plus $600 for fees. Bad call on my part :(
Best to switch to Delta
Damn dude
Wow Air and save your points. Fly to gatwick and skip the landing fees and they are a great deal from the east coast. LHR fees suck.
They aren't Heathrow fees. They're BA fees.
D1 They're both. BA passes on absurd fuel surcharges on award bookings. Heathrow also has very high taxes.
U.K. air taxes (e.g.APD, etc) are high. It's not just Hrathrow.
